Arne Slot Maintains He Feels Safe and Has Liverpool's Support Following PSV Eindhoven Defeat
Arne Slot acknowledged that it's expected for questions to be raised about his future after another convincing loss versus PSV Eindhoven.
Liverpool suffered their 9th loss in twelve matches, marking the team's poorest run after being relegated in the 1953-54 season.
They were dominated by the Eredivisie title holders on a punishing night at their home ground.
“I feel secure, I'm fine, I have got a lot of backing from the top,” Slot stated.
“It would be great to reverse this trend and secure a win obviously but when you're coaching a team and underperforming then it's expected that people question you.”
He added, “I accept my position. It is not the initial instance I've found myself in a difficult position but it is about time that we turned it around.”
Discussions with The Board
Upon being questioned to expand on his discussions with the Liverpool hierarchy, Slot said:
“There's regular dialogue. They are supportive to the team and for me and we discuss these matters but they aren't calling me constantly of the day to say they back me.”
He added, “In the normal conversations we have I sense the belief. But I haven’t spoken to them since this match so far so we'll see.”
Recurring Problems and Player Response
Slot lamented familiar failings from his Liverpool side in their European defeat, specifically poor finishing and leaking goals.
Meanwhile, midfielder Jones was more direct in his view of the team's situation.
“I haven't got the answers. Honestly, I don’t. I’m saying that to everybody,” Jones said.
“It's simply unacceptable. I don't have to wait to consider it. I'm beyond getting mad inside. I’m at the point now where I just don’t have the words.”
He went on, “It’s hard because I play for the team I support. I’m a fan, and I’ve seen this club all my life.”
“In a long, long time, I haven’t experienced a Reds side experiencing a period of this nature with performances like these.”
He concluded, “However we still have the crest on our shirts. And as long as it is removed, we’re always going to compete.”
“We’re going to try to help the side return to its rightful place, show everyone once more what this club is about and why people call it the greatest side in the planet.”
“At this moment, we're in trouble and it needs to change.”
