Battlefield 6's Casual Playlist Sparks Heated Debates Regarding AI Players, XP Rewards, and Wait Times

Recently, the game developers launched a new playlist titled Relaxed Breakthrough. In essence, this option mirrors the standard Breakthrough setup but includes several notable adjustments:

  • Every squad has just 8 human participants, with the remaining made up of 32 bots.
  • Activities performed by human gamers grant full XP, while AI activities provide lower rewards.
  • Only two locations are available: Cairo Siege and Empire State.
  • Elements like Dogtags, accolades, and stat tracking have been turned off.

So essentially, the playlist lives up to its title: it offers a casual version of Breakthrough. On the surface, one could assume there's nothing wrong, as it gives additional choices for gamers seeking alternative ways to have fun with the game. But, if video games has shown one thing, it's that not everyone will be happy. Which is to say, many Battlefield 6 fans are mad.

Community Reactions: Anger to Praise

"Gamers prefer real players. Don't repeat the mistakes of your competitors," reads a response to the official announcement. "Absolutely shocking idea," says a different user. Meanwhile, in community forums, a player remarks, "It's unclear where we are going with this game," and another details all the issues they believe to be problematic in the game: "Resolve glitches, fix drone glitch, fix IVF rockets, fix [the] bloom after sprinting bug, improve hit detection. We don't need this AI-heavy playlist."

However, amid the criticism, some gamers explaining how much they're liking the new mode. "It's very fun to warm up, human participants prevent it from being a complete grind but it's very relaxed," reads one Reddit comment. "The community doesn't understand that there are players who actually go outside and can't play this game 24/7. Allow them to strike a balance," states a different comment. A response on Twitter explains that as they're "a battledad with limited time, this is perfect for me," while another applauds the mode for "not being overcompetitive."

Constructive Concerns and Player Feedback

Despite the support, players have valid points to criticize the new mode. Some users have highlighted that it will make queue times more extended for other modes because of the sheer number of playlists currently available. On a similar note, some areas already encounter AI-filled matches in the current modes. Additionally, it appears a little backwards that the mode does not begin without a required amount of real players, despite it focuses mostly on combat against bots.

Finally, one of the biggest grievances is that a previous feature was promised to offer complete rewards, even against bots, but that got canned when they attempted to remove XP farming from the mode. So Casual Breakthrough seems like the community compromising halfway, as per a Reddit comment. A different user describes this mode as the devs "making a mistake significantly, I experienced great enjoyment in the initial release, what prompted them to change it?"

Future Prospects: Will Changes Be Made?

If Battlefield Studios has proven anything so far with the latest installment, it's that they're listening and responding to feedback. Tasks being too difficult got fixed very quickly, as did the required Redsec challenges. It is likely that, should analytics shows this new playlist isn't performing to their expectations, they will not hesitate to change it again.
