Prosecutors have stated that a ex- doctor now faces charges for carrying out assaults against 38 individuals who were patients.

The Serious Charges

Nathaniel Spencer from Birmingham is accused of numerous acts of sexual assault – including some against minors under the age of thirteen – between 2017 and 2021.

One deputy chief prosecutor said, “Legal teams have worked at length to assist a detailed and complex investigation, carefully reviewing the available evidence to determine that there is a strong case to bring the case to trial and that it is in the interest of justice.”

Scope of the Police Inquiry

The charges follow what investigators described as a “complex investigation” into alleged sexual offences at two hospitals: the Royal Stoke university hospital and Russells Hall hospital.

The defendant is due to appear at the North Staffordshire justice centre on January 20th.

Prosecutors said the 45 charges comprise:

  • 15 counts of assault.

  • Nine counts of assault on a minor under thirteen.
  • Three counts of penetrative assault on a child under thirteen.
  • 1 count of attempting to assault by penetration.

Police have asked individuals with information to get in touch with the investigating team.
