Iran Claims Strike on US Base in the Kingdom of Bahrain, Amid Widespread Counterattacks.
Iran's military claims to have hit a American military facility in Bahrain, as Iran launched missile attacks throughout the Middle East in retaliation for a large-scale and ongoing attack targeting the nation by the US and Israel.
Huge plumes of black smoke were seen rising from an zone in the area of the command center of the US Navy's Fifth Fleet in Manama, Bahrain. The full scale of any impact is unclear and the US has yet to issue a statement.
Regional Interceptions
Elsewhere across the region, the UAE, the State of Qatar and the State of Kuwait - which all house US military bases - stated they have engaged and destroyed missiles in their territorial skies.
In Doha, the Qatari Ministry of Defence said it had intercepted a number of projectiles apparently targeting the al-Udeid air base, the largest American base in the region.
Iran's Declared Retaliation
Iran's Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) declared it was striking US bases and assets as part of military campaign "Truthful Promise 4", in reprisal for the offensive on Iran launched by the United States and its ally Israel on Saturday.
That US-Israeli operation - launched at around 06:15 GMT - has so far focused on areas linked to the the regime, with President Trump encouraging the Iranian people to revolt against the regime.
Regional Fallout
In the State of Israel, air raid sirens sounded nationwide after the Israel Defense Forces reported it had detected an barrage of missiles from Iran.
The Ministry of Defence of the United Arab Emirates stated that the country has been targeted by a "a blatant attack involving Iranian ballistic missiles".
"Emirati air defenses dealt with the projectiles with high efficiency and successfully intercepted a several projectiles," the statement continued.
The statement noted missile fragments landed in a residential area in Abu Dhabi, causing some structural damage and killing a civilian.
The US Air Force is stationed at Al Dhafra Air Base, to the south of the Emirati capital, along with the UAE Air Force.
