The Porcine Pardon: Hog Named 6-7 Granted Clemency by Miami-Dade Mayor.

It might not have been at the same level as sparing holiday birds, but the mayor of Miami-Dade had her own presidential-style act this week by ceremoniously saving the life of a swine named Six Seven.

Daniella Levine Cava carried out the annual tradition at the Cuban-themed Latin Cafe 2000 in the heart of Miami’s Little Havana neighborhood.

“The swine has done no wrong. She deserves this act of mercy. No offenses are on her docket,” declared Levine Cava in a speech with obvious nods to the sheer volume of pardons issued since the commencement of a second term in office.

“If we disregard eating 6 or 7 apples per day,” she went on. “Let this swine have a prosperous future free from concern.”

The event, either celebrating or rejecting the local cultural practice of feasting on pork during the holidays, was established to replicate the yearly bird sparing at the White House.

The swine, donated by a Coral Gables firefighter, was given its name from the popular vernacular phrase of young people exclaiming “six-seven” – deriving from a rap song lyric – often without clear purpose. The trend became so pervasive that a prominent word reference recently made “6-7” its top term for the year.

A Future Secured

Six Seven the pig is now scheduled to spend its days at a countryside refuge “far from charcoal and roasting pans”, according to the event’s official press release.

“This swine clemency has become a cherished method to open the end-of-year celebrations,” said Eric Castellanos, in a particularly upbeat message.

“It captures the character of Miami: vibrant, multicultural, and grounded in customs that foster togetherness. Every time, we are honored to observe heritage and mercy in a way unique to Miami.”

Guests enjoyed a meat-free selection of spinach fritters and strong coffee as they marked Six Seven’s big moment.
