The Red Devils Set to Secure German Striker Lea Schüller from Bayern Munich

The Women's Super League club are on the verge of sealing the deal for prolific German striker Lea Schüller on a permanent transfer away from the Frauen-Bundesliga champions.

A Major Signing for United

Schüller, who has six months remaining on her deal, has been a consistent goal-getter for both club and country. She has netted over 100 goals for the German giants and scored 54 times in 82 appearances for Germany. Her arrival will be seen as a major signing for the Women’s Super League side.

Her exit from Munich has been anticipated since she appeared to be holding back emotions while thanking the German club’s supporters after a victory over Bayer Leverkusen recently.

Reports in late December that the German women's top flight was losing one of its leading forwards. According to multiple sources, the formalities for the move are now finalised.

Consistent Goalscoring to Boost the Forward Line

The experienced striker's signing is expected to provide a major boost to the team's forward line. She has been highly reliable with her finishing in Germany’s top flight.

  • For seven consecutive seasons, up to and including the most recent campaign, she reached at least a double-digit tally of league goals.
  • She claimed the top scorer award in the 2021-22 season with 16 goals.

Building Momentum at Carrington

Securing the German international comes at a time when the club seem to be building momentum.

Recent on-pitch successes feature securing a place in the Champions League knockout phase playoffs as a seeded team and a victory in the Conti Cup quarter-finals.

Off the pitch, the winter break has brought additional business:

  1. The signing of Swedish defender Hanna Lundkvist on a multi-year deal.
  2. The contract extension for Japan playmaker Hinata Miyazawa, a fan favourite since joining in 2023.

On Miyazawa’s extension, a club official commented: “She has become a vital component to the way we play. Her footballing intelligence and skill enables her and the team to dominate play from central areas.”

The new defender, having joined from a side from the American league, said: “You can sense how much they [United] have grown in the last few years, competing in one of the strongest leagues in the world and now featuring in the Champions League.”
