Unbowed Wilfried Nancy does not fear the sack yet supporters display fury after loss.
The Celtic boss stated he was not afraid of losing his job, maintaining, “The team is really close to things turning around,” in the wake of moving dangerously close to the exit with a comprehensive defeat by the Ibrox side.
A Second-Half Meltdown Results in Old Firm Defeat
The home side had led Rangers at the interval but a disastrous second period allowed Danny Röhl’s team to pull level on points with the reigning league title holders. Nancy, who was brought in from the MLS, has now presided over six setbacks in his first eight games.
“We are together at the club,” said Nancy.
Asked directly about his own future, the 48-year-old said: “I don’t think about it. My focus is on discovering solutions to help my team to improve on small moments.
Protest Outside Parkhead
Hundreds of supporters made their feelings clear – directed at the board and manager – by protesting outside the stadium. Club directors are reportedly likely to return to the former boss, who steered the club during a temporary stint last year, if Nancy departs.
“The outcomes [that leads to pressure]. That is the reality for the moment. Yet in stating this is the reality, that is not a sign that I am giving up. Not at all. The message is the turnaround is near, imminently close to reverse our form.”
“Really, Really Close”
The coach continues to cling to the fact the side play well for a half at a time. Indeed, if not for poor finishing they would have been greater than 1-0 up. “There were positives other than the fact that we haven’t scored more goals,” he said. “I know that we lost, but I have also to be balanced.
“The level we had at stages was exceptionally high. That is a fact. And I would not speak so positively if it was not the case. But that’s why, when it comes to wins, I said this is the same story. That’s why I feel a change is coming to a shift in fortunes. Currently: the fine margins.”
“We produced plenty of positives that we did, once more. But now is sustaining it. My narrative would change if I didn't believe it. Therefore I am a big believer we will manage to turn things around.”
The Rangers Boss Outlook
Rangers manager was cautious about a championship push even after what felt like a statement victory. “One match at a time, so we can really build up something here,” he said. “The faith in the team is outstanding.”
