Vince Gilligan Reveals He Knows How His Sci-Fi Series Will End... For Now.

The creative mastermind never anticipated that his new science-fiction series would emerge as a massive hit. “God bless the fans,” Gilligan says. “I did not foresee the show being as widely discussed as it is, and it makes me deliriously happy.”

With the first season of the hit sci-fi show wrapping up—and a second season already in development—the creative team recently discussed the audience reaction and whether it will impact the narrative path of Pluribus.

Regarding the Incredible Audience Reaction

Anyone might to get swayed by the widespread acclaim and online debates about Pluribus. Gilligan, however, is doing his best to steer clear of all that.

“The experience is akin to constantly eating hot fudge sundaes and being in a state of bliss,” he says. “It's the greatest thing, but I get wind of it from others, and that's intentional. Never in my life Googled myself, nor do I ever plan to. It's not a lack of interest. It's a bottomless pit I know I would get lost in and then I'd be living in squalor from the hardware store and I'd never leave my living room.”

Regardless of Gilligan’s best intentions, there’s no escaping the extremely enthusiastic response to the series. The best he and his team can do is to take it in stride and try not to let it dictate the story of the show.

“It is not our goal to tailor anything,” says Alison Tatlock. “The narrative we craft is not impacted by what people are saying.”

“It's wiser to keep our noses to the grindstone,” he chimes in.

The Central Mystery: Has the showrunner Know the Ending of Pluribus?

Considering the writers aren't taking cues by audience theories, can we assume they have mapped out how Pluribus will ultimately end? The answer is yes… with some caveats.

“There are some compelling concepts about where the show might end up,” he states. “yet we stand ready to throw out a solid concept for a better idea. That philosophy has guided us in excellent shape on Better Call Saul and on Breaking Bad even before that. We throw stuff out when we find a more perfect path and I suspect we'll be doing that.”

On the other hand, if all else fails, director and writer Gordon Smith has a rather amusing idea to serve as a last resort.

“My recurring proposal is that everything takes place within a snow globe, and that we'll reveal the snow globe and that's where they've been all along,” he says humorously, “but nobody's taking me up on that.”

Then again, why not reference the legendary finales?

“I'd love for Carol to open her eyes beside Bob Newhart,” Gilligan adds, smiling.

Pluribus can be watched on Apple TV.
